About Me

Dr. Saunia Ahmad, Ph.D., C.Psych. is a Clinical Psychologist and founder of the Toronto Psychology Clinic. She completed her MA and Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology at York University, supported by the highly competitive Canada Graduate Scholarship (SSHRC) for her research on cultural sensitivity in couples therapy.

Dr. Ahmad’s training spans leading institutions including CAMH, North York General Hospital, and the State University of New York (SUNY) Upstate Medical University. She later worked at the Cleveland Clinic Toronto and the Odette Cancer Centre at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre, where she supported patients and families coping with cancer and contributed to a national research project developing online interventions for couples.

Her psychotherapy approach is integrative, drawing from Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), mindfulness, family systems, psychodynamic, and narrative frameworks. She provides therapy for a wide range of concerns—from stress, anxiety, and depression to trauma, relationship issues, and personality disorders—and offers services in English, Hindi, and Urdu.

Dr. Ahmad is recognized for her leadership in culturally responsive psychotherapy. Her doctoral research was among the first to evaluate the effectiveness of couples interventions with South Asian populations in Canada, expanding Western models to include diverse cultural perspectives on love, family, and identity. Her practice is LGBTQ+ affirmative and committed to equity, inclusion, and anti-oppressive care.

A visiting scholar at York University, Dr. Ahmad continues to supervise graduate research, publish in peer-reviewed journals, and present nationally and internationally. Having lived in Canada, the Middle East, India, the UK, and the U.S., she brings a pluralistic, deeply empathetic understanding of identity and belonging to her clinical work.
