So you only have eight sessions: What do you do? Integrating evidence-informed practices into time-limited psychotherapy

Description: This two-day webinar is designed for front-line workers and mental health clinicians working in community agencies, family health teams or community health centres where there are a limited number of sessions to see clients. Participants will learn how to structure time-limited psychotherapy and counselling sessions with evidence-informed interventions to make the most of client sessions.

The programming will cover the beginning, middle and end-phase tasks of psychotherapy/counselling and discuss common factors of psychotherapy effectiveness.  A model for short-term trauma-informed treatment will be reviewed as well as key interventions from both cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) and interpersonal therapy (IPT) to address common mental illness. This training will use video, small group discussion, role-play, experiential learning and didactic teaching methods.


Learning objectives:

  • Describe the beginning, middle and end-phase tasks in time-limited psychotherapy/counselling.
  • Learn the common principles of psychotherapy/counselling effectiveness.
  • Learn a model for short-term trauma-informed treatment approaches.
  • Acquire evidence-informed strategies/interventions from CBT and IPT to address common mental illness.
  • Integrate CBT and IPT interventions into the phase tasks of time-limited psychotherapy/counselling.
