When the Body Speaks: Ego State Therapy & Hypnotic Applications for Somatic Symptoms Including FND, Chronic Pain & Sleep Concerns presented by Wendy Lemke M.S. This advanced two-day training is designed for clinicians with prior hypnosis training who want to deepen their skills in working with somatic symptoms such as functional neurological disorder (FND), chronic pain, and sleep disturbances. Grounded in Ego State Therapy, the course conceptualizes somatic symptoms as meaningful communications from the body and the system of self, reflecting internal conflicts, adaptive reasoning, or survival strategies. Participants will learn to use ideomotor signaling and other unconscious methods to communicate with ego states and the body to explore contributing factors, safety, function, and potential pathways for resolution within a trauma-informed, phase-oriented framework such as the SARI model. The training reviews and applies core Ego State Therapy principles, including Lemke’s adapted P-Principles, which support safe and manageable unconscious exploration for internally conflicted or traumatized clients. Participants will learn EST-based strategies for formulating therapeutic intentions, hypnotic suggestions, and interventions, including accessing internal resources and Lemke’s Playing with the Space to shift physiology toward optimal somatic functioning. Learning is supported through demonstrations, case examples, and experiential exercises.
