Treating trauma in children, youth and families

Description: This training aims to explore how trauma impacts children and families, how to best support these clients to identify myriad traumatic responses and encourage healing in the family system. By the end of this training, participants will be able to recognize the effects of trauma in children and adolescents, understand the many manifestations of complex developmental trauma and incorporate this understanding into their work. 

Strategies will be provided to assist in the stabilization and support of youth with traumatic histories, as well as steps on how to use relationships to promote healing in traumatized children. This family-focused training will also include some time spent on parenting in the context of trauma.


Learning objectives:

  • Recognize the effects of trauma in children and adolescents.
  • Understand the many manifestations of complex developmental trauma.
  • Develop strategies to assist in the stabilization and support of youth with traumatic histories.
  • Understand the importance of relationships in the promotion of healing in traumatized children.
