About Me

Dr. Sonia Dhawan is a registered Clinical Psychologist licensed to practice in the Province of Ontario since 2000. She has a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology. Her office is located in Markham, but she provides virtual services to individuals throughout Ontario. Dr. Dhawan sees individuals from a broad range of ages, from adolescents to the elderly.

Dr. Dhawan provides assessment, therapy and consultation in a number of general areas, including depression, anxiety and life transitions, but specializes in working with children of immigrants and helping them to deal with cross-cultural issues, such as the adjustment to a new culture, inter-generational conflict and cultural identity issues.

As a child of Indian immigrants herself Dr. Dhawan has first hand knowledge and experience of what children of immigrants go through in dealing with dual identities and trying to find their place in the world. She shares that lived experience that allows clients to open up without having to explain all sorts of background information.
