Position Requirements 

  • Successful completion of a Ph.D. or M.A. in Clinical Psychology, or recognized equivalent, from an accredited university (Canadian preferred).
  • Current registration as a psychologist or psychological associate in good standing with the College of Psychologists of Ontario required.
  • Minimum five (5) years of post-graduate experience, with demonstrated training and experience in personality assessment and evidence based approaches to short-term treatment.
  • Previous experience in working in a clinical capacity with first responders preferred.
  • Ability to determine the psychological suitability of uniform and civilian members to work in high risk units.
  • Critical and creative thinking skills in order to develop solutions for and decide on appropriate interventions and referrals to be made for members suffering from a variety of psychological concerns including PTSD, depression and substance abuse.
  • Ability to navigate ethical dilemmas regarding confidentiality and safety of members and coworkers.
  • Advanced writing skills in order to create reports and documents using technical language to influence or affect the decisions of senior management.
  • High level of verbal communication and conflict resolution skills.
  • Must be available for infrequent evening and weekend call-outs when needed.
  • Ability to demonstrate tact and diplomacy, in dealing with sensitive and confidential issues of members.
  • Research and analytical skills to identify issues and determine appropriate responses.
  • Valid Class “G” Driver’s License.

Trauma Counsellor
